Ayn Rand, a mysterious writer.
A woman so well known in the United States, in India where she is taught. And passed over in France, in Belgium. In Spain her books are translated. So why this French-speaking misunderstanding of her work? In french, her publications were made “to the drop account”, her books are extremely hard to find. But once one of them is in hand, it is difficult not to be disturbed. Among her works, “The Fountainhead” particularly impressed me. She approaches the story of a brilliant architect, without compromise whose freedom fascinates. Ayn Rand writing is skillful, surgical. Her stories have a timeless acuteness. All these objectivist principles are apparent.

Une femme si connue aux Etats-Unis, en Inde où on l’enseigne. Et passée sous silence en France, en Belgique. En Espagne, ses livres sont traduits. Alors pourquoi cette méconnaissance francophone de son travail ? En francophonie, ses publications se sont faites ‘au compte-goutte’, ses livres sont extrêmement pénibles à trouver. Mais une fois l’un de ses recueils en main, il est difficile de ne pas être troublé. Parmi ses œuvres, ‘La source vive’ m’a particulièrement marquée. Elle aborde l’histoire d’un architecte brillant, sans compromission dont la liberté fascine. L’écriture d’Ayn Rand est habile, chirurgicale. Ses histoires ont une acuité intemporelle. Tous ces principes objectivistes y transparaissent alors.
A personal landmark
“The Fountainhead”, I often referred to it when I had an important choice to make in my life. A particular passage is engraved in me, that of the plea of Howard Roark, the main character, during his trial. Magistral. Ayn Rand addresses intellectual integrity with accuracy. I love this twenty pages with all the greed of a convinced reader.

‘La source vive’, je m’y suis souvent référée lorsque j’avais un choix important à faire dans ma vie. Un passage en particulier est gravé en moi, celui du plaidoyer d’Howard Roark, le personnage principal, lors de son procès. Magistral. Ayn Rand y aborde l’intégrité intellectuelle avec justesse. J’aime cette vingtaine de pages avec toute l’avidité d’une lectrice convaincue.
