Morin, a resistant name
His real name is Edgar Nahoum. Born in Paris in 1921, he was engaged during the First World War and then during the Second World War. In 1942, he entered the resistance and took the name of Morin. An identity that has followed him since. Graduated in history-geography, in law, he becomes a well of knowledge so that he becomes a researcher at the CNRS. A marginal researcher, bold. Edgar Morin publishes and elaborates his ‘Method’, 6 volumes developing the concept of complex thought. For him, ‘thought is the most valuable capital for the individual and society’. A defender of man, of pure humanity, he has been involved for several years on the themes of ecology and globalization.

Son véritable nom est Edgar Nahoum. Né en 1921 à Paris, il est un engagé pendant la guerre d’Espagne d’abord puis durant la seconde guerre mondiale ensuite. En 1942, il entre dans la résistance et prend le nom de Morin. Une identité qui le suit depuis. Licencié en histoire-géographie, en droit, il devient un puits de savoirs si bien qu’il devient chercheur au CNRS. Un chercheur marginal, audacieux. Edgar Morin publie et élabore sa ‘Méthode’, 6 tomes développant le concept de pensée complexe. Pour lui, ‘la pensée est le capital le plus précieux pour l’individu et la société’. Défenseur de l’homme, de la pure humanité, il s’engage depuis plusieurs années sur les thèmes de l’écologie et de la mondialisation.
A lunch filled with passion with Edgar Morin
Edgar Morin was in Marrakech and I had the immense chance to have lunch with him. What a joy to listen to him. His thought, his open-mindedness, his analyzes, his candor and even his youth are incredible. I admire him. ‘Teaching to Live: Manifest to Change Education’ and ‘Greening Man: The Nature of the Future and the Future of Nature’ are works that have spoken to me, aroused, inspired and fascinated. Meeting the figure, the spirit behind the lines and concepts, was a great opportunity. Intellectual wisdom was there. That it spreads beyond this encounter, his books, his life as it carries meaning. Un déjeuner rempli de passion avec Edgar Morin
Edgar Morin était à Marrakech et j’ai eu l’immense chance de déjeuner avec lui. Quelle joie de l’écouter. Sa pensée, son ouverture d’esprit, ses analyses, sa candeur et même sa jeunesse sont incroyables. J’en suis admirative. ‘Enseigner à vivre : manifeste pour changer l’éducation’ et ‘Ecologiser l’homme : la nature du futur et le futur de la nature’ sont des ouvrages qui m’ont parlé, interpellée, inspirée, fascinée. Rencontrer la figure, l’esprit qui se cache derrière les lignes et les concepts, ce fut une magnifique opportunité. La sagesse intellectuelle était au rendez-vous. Que celle-ci se propage au-delà de cette rencontre, de ses livres, de sa vie tant elle est porteuse de sens. Aujourd’hui sort son dernier ouvrage : ‘Penser global : l’homme et son univers’.
