Each country has its strengths and a few weakenesses. In Vietnam, the complexity is to find good fabrics in reasonable quantities. Actually, a essential aspect when you want to make quilts. The beauty of this technic lays in the variety of fabrics that you assemble, different prints, and the palet of associated colours. That is a real challenge for Mekong+, which original name was Mekong Quilts…
Chaque pays a ses points forts et ses quelques faiblesses. Au Vietnam, l’une des complexités est de trouver des tissus de belle qualité en quantités raisonnables. Un aspect pourtant essentiel pour réaliser du quilt. La beauté de cette technique est en réalité la variété de tissus, les variations d’éventuels imprimés, de couleurs associées. Le challenge est donc de taille pour l’ONG Mekong+ qui s’appelait initialement Mekong Quilts…

There is a strong link between this ngo and this ancestral technic. Since many years Mekong+ has trained and given work to women in different parts of the country around several quilting technics. Associate, assemble, stitch with know how and before that source the fabrics that will permit to create a nice quilt.
C’est dire si le lien entre l’association et cette technique est ancestral. Depuis des années, Mekong + met au travail des femmes issues de plusieurs régions du Vietnam autour de cette discipline. Associer, assembler, coudre avec savoir-faire et en amont, trouver des tissus qui permettent de réaliser un ouvrage réussi.

When i arrived in HCM city, together with the local designers of the ngo, we have worked on this first collection under my creative direction. One of my priorities was to have a fresh breeze blowing over the quilt repertoire, a more modern and attractive style. Together we have worked to reach this goal. The will of all designers was to learn and to reach the target keeping in focus the defended causes of the ngo. Woman, artisans, have also enlarged their knowledge while paying tribute to the essence of the ngo, to its initial name and activity.
A mon arrivée, nous avons abordé une première collection sous ma direction artistique. L’une de mes priorités a été d’actualiser le style des quilts, de les rendre plus modernes et attractifs. Nous avons travaillé ensemble à cela. La volonté de tous les designers est d’apprendre et d’arriver à un résultat réussi tout en intégrant les causes défendues par l’ONG. Les artisans ont donc aussi peaufiné leurs connaissances tout en rendant hommage à l’essence de l’association, à son nom initial.
