Some history…
The Sahart Foundation was set up in 1997 and had the aim to give artists the opportunity to come and express themselves in complete calm, without any material constraints, in a context that was favourable to inspiration, in the medina of Marrakesh or in Saharan surroundings in a mineral location with a stimulating atmosphere.
Russian, Belgian, French, Moroccan, German, Spanish, Iralian and British painters, photographers and poets came to work at the foundation for several months and swap impressions with the craftsmen and people of Marrakesh.
In an exceptional setting, a riad or garden in the interior of a house in Marrakesh’s old city, or a camp at the edges of the desert, the Foundation had a challenging purpose: to grant artists from all over the world the opportunity to be free and “create for art’s sake and to work without restrictions, during residencies of up to three months.
Un peu d’histoire…
La fondation Sahart a vu le jour à Marrakech en 1997 et a été le lieu de toutes les aventures et celui de toutes les histoires écrites par des artistes de diverses nationalités qui y ont vécu des expériences fantastiques hautes en couleurs et riches de rencontres.
Dans un cadre de vie exceptionnel, un riad au cœur de la médina de Marrakech ou un campement aux confins du désert, la Fondation s’est lancé un défi permanent : offrir à des artistes du monde entier, l’occasion d’être libre de « créer pour soi, de travailler sans contrainte lors de leurs séjours pouvant durer jusqu’à 3 mois.
