Embroidered mirrors of Gujarat
Shimmering colors that sparkle by their shades but also by the small mirrors they contain. In the region of Gujarat, in the north-west of India, a craft tradition consists in embroidering small mirrors on fabrics. These decorative pieces are called “shisha” and in fact originated in Iran … It was in the 16th century that technology is imported into India and more specifically in this region of the country.

Des couleurs chatoyantes qui étincellent par leurs nuances mais aussi par les petits miroirs qu’elles renferment. Dans la région du Gujarat, au Nord-Ouest de l’Inde, une tradition artisanale consiste à broder de petits miroirs sur des étoffes. Ces pièces décoratives s’appellent ‘shisha’ et trouvent en fait leur origine en Iran… C’est au 16e siècle que la technique s’importe en Inde et plus spécifiquement dans cette région du pays.
A particular technique
Initially, women embroiderers used small pieces of silver or mica for their sparkling effect. Then appeared the blown glass cut in circles and today small circular mirrors placed on a silver support. This is fixed to the needle on cotton using, most often, the buttonhole point.
Une technique particulière
Initialement, les femmes brodeuses utilisaient des petites pièces d’argent ou du mica pour leur effet étincelant. Est ensuite apparu le verre soufflé découpé en rond et aujourd’hui de petits miroirs circulaires posés sur un support argenté. Celui-ci est fixé à l’aiguille sur du coton en utilisant, le plus souvent, le point boutonnière.
No-Mad and Embroidered Mirrors
No-Mad is immersed in this tradition that gives the textile its luster and personality. An embroidered piece has been developed. Each mirror is embroidered by hand. Next is born a fabric available per meter. It is printed and enhanced here and there by hand-embroidered mirrors.
No-Mad et les miroirs brodés
No-Mad s’est plongé dans cette tradition qui donne de l’éclat et de la personnalité au textile. Une pièce brodée a été élaborée. Nous l’utilisons principalement pour des coussins. Chaque miroir est brodé à la main. Est ensuite né un tissu disponible au mètre. Celui-ci est imprimé et rehaussé de-ci, de là, par de petits miroirs brodés à la main.
