Picasso and primitive African art

A realization that came to my mind during the visit of the exhibition ‘Picasso Primitif’ at the Quai Branly in Paris. An exciting exhibition that contrasts Picasso’s works with those of primitive African artists. Was he not a collector of African art ? Like many, I read a lot about the Spanish artist but I had never seen the evolution of his work face to face with African sculptures. Both actually share the visual and creative strength.

Une réalisation qui m’est venue à l’esprit lors de la visite de l’exposition ‘Picasso Primitif’ du Quai Branly à Paris. Une expo passionnante mettant en regard les œuvres de Picasso à celles des artistes primitifs africains. N’était-il pas collectionneur d’art africain ? Comme beaucoup, j’ai beaucoup lu sur l’artiste espagnol mais jamais, je n’avais vu l’évolution de son œuvre mise en face à face avec les sculptures africaines. Tous deux partagent réellement la force visuelle et créative.
